ZTE presented the flagship smartphone Nubia Z50 Ultra, which has a screen without cutouts and holes – its front camera is hidden under the display. The smartphone has a very thin body with straight lines, along with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset and a 5000mAh battery with 80W fast charging.

The main camera module on the back is equipped with a 64-megapixel Sony IMX787 sensor and optics with an equivalent focal length of 35mm – the same goes for the Nubia Z50. The same image sensor is used in the second module with optics with an equivalent focal length of 85mm. The third module is a 50-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera with autofocus and macro mode.
The smartphone has a flat 6.8-inch AMOLED display with a resolution of 2480 × 1116 pixels and a refresh rate of up to 120 Hz with a very thin metal frame. The maximum display brightness reaches 1300 cd/m². The coverage of the DCI-P3 color space is 100%. There are two elements under the screen: the fourth-generation front under-screen camera with a 16-megapixel Neovision sensor and the seventh-generation fingerprint scanner with an integrated heart rate sensor. The light transmission in the camera area has been increased by 30% compared to the solution of the previous generation. Optimized algorithms and integrated AI measurably improve the quality of photos.
The Z50 Ultra is the first device in the Nubia Z series to feature a physical switch that can be configured to mute notifications, enable gaming mode, or take snapshots. The corporate button on the right is the power button and volume rocker.
The phone ships with MyOS 13 based on Android 13, with no third-party software preinstalled. Connectivity options include USB Type-C 3.1, Bluetooth 5.3 and tri-band GPS navigation – the Nubia Z50 Ultra can locate quickly and accurately while using the L1, L2 and L5 frequency bands. The following combinations of RAM and internal storage are available: 8/256 GB, 12/256 GB, 12/512 GB and 16 GB plus 1 TB. For all models except the youngest, the manufacturer requires LPDDR5X RAM and UFS 4.0 storage.
The Z50 Ultra is offered in two colors – gray and black, with red accents around the main cameras and power button. Both options start at around $580. There’s also a third variant called Starry Night, named after a popular painting by Impressionist Vincent van Gogh, which comes with just 12GB of RAM and 512GB of storage for a special price of around $720. Sales begin in China on March 14th.
