Xiaomi will give money back to buyers of Mi 1 – the first smartphone of the company, which was released 10 years ago

10 years ago, Xiaomi released its first smartphone Mi 1 and decided to celebrate this event in a very unusual way. Those who decided to leave a pre-order for an affordable flagship and later bought their copy are now entitled to compensation from the manufacturer for its full cost.

According to the company, 184,600 copies of the Mi 1 were originally sold at 1999 yuan (about $ 308). Accordingly, today the total amount of compensation will be about $ 57 million – quite a bit on the scale of the corporation that Xiaomi has become.

But judging by the post on the Chinese social network Weibo, former buyers shouldn’t wait to get their hands on money. Instead, they will be given a subsidy for another purchase from the Xiaomi online store – also a good way to reward the loyalty of old customers.

Although today you can’t buy a flagship device for $ 308, for that amount you can get a decent model like Redmi Note 10 or POCO X3 Pro. In addition, the Xiaomi store offers a variety of smart gadgets and wearables for much less than $ 300.

Of course, these are not the only news that Xiaomi has shared this week. Yesterday, the manufacturer presented a flagship smartphone, tablet, TVs, stylus, smart speaker and, suddenly, a robotic dog suspiciously similar to the creation of Boston Dynamics. True, unlike the expensive development of an American company, the new CyberDog costs only a little more than half a thousand dollars, and has not yet been sold.
