One of the main advantages of the novelty is the thickness of the gadget: when folded it is up to 11.2 mm, and when unfolded it is 5.4 mm. For comparison: the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 presented the day before is at least 14.2 mm when folded and 6.3 mm when unfolded. The Xiaomi Mix Fold 2 is equipped with two displays: the main LTPO has a diagonal of 8.02 inches with a resolution of 2160 × 1914 pixels and a frequency of 120 Hz – this is Samsung’s Eco² OLED panel and the size of the external inflexible AMOLED 6.56 inches with a resolution of 2520 × 1080 pixels, the same frequency of 120 Hz and a protective coating of Gorilla Glass Victus. Both screens support Dolby Vision and HDR10+ and their brightness is 1000 cd/m².

The smartphone runs on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 processor with 12 GB of RAM and built-in storage, the volume of which is 256, 512 GB or 1 TB depending on the version. The battery capacity was 4500 mAh (a year ago it was 5020 mAh), it supports 67W charging and reaches 100% in just 40 minutes.

On board the Xiaomi Mix Fold 2 is a trio of cameras developed with the participation of Leica: the main module received a 50-megapixel Sony IMX766 sensor, there are also 13-megapixel ultra-wide and 8- Megapixel cameras with 2x optical zoom. There is a hole at the top of the outer display, behind which there is a fourth 20-megapixel camera for selfies and video calls.

Leica’s commitment is also evident in the custom camera app, which offers a “Leica Authentic” mode for amateur photographers and a “Leica Vibrant” mode for most users. The smartphone makes a classic Leica M3 shutter sound when shooting, and there’s also a collection of Leica-inspired filters, lens effects, and interface elements throughout the camera app. Finally, there is CyberFocus technology, based on artificial intelligence algorithms – it makes it easier to capture moving objects. The technology was borrowed from the robot dog CyberDog.

Among other advantages of the device, it is worth noting the presence of an NFC module and an infrared port, a pair of Harman Kardon stereo speakers, support for Dolby Atmos, Hi-Res Audio and Hi-Res Audio Wireless. As a software platform, a special version for large Android 12L displays is used here, in the development of which Xiaomi specialists took part, but the system is presented with the interface add-on MIUI Fold.

Xiaomi Mix Fold 2 will go on sale in China on August 16th. The basic version with 256GB storage costs 8,999 yuan ($1,336), the mid-range version with 512GB costs 9,999 yuan ($1,445), and the older version with 1TB storage costs 11,999 yuan ($1,782). So far, nothing has been said about the start of sales of the smartphone in other countries.
