Xbox products will be 100% recyclable by 2030

Microsoft has released details of its plan to ensure resource efficiency in future Xbox launches. In particular, it is expected that by 2030 Xbox products, including Xbox consoles themselves, accessories and their packaging, will be 100% recycled in Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) countries.

Microsoft stated that the Xbox Series X|S consoles are 97% recyclable based on current standards. Microsoft also said that it has already integrated “advanced energy monitoring systemto some of their consoles to provide telemetry data.

The Xbox Series S consoles were the first consoles to use post-consumer recycled (PCR) resins in the manufacture of components – at least 28% of the console’s weight comes from such recycled products. And Xbox Design Lab controllers are 25% resin. By May of this year, the resin content in them should be brought up to 28% by weight. On the software side, Xbox consoles now have a power saving mode enabled by default, which consumes 20x less power when idle and can also be used to download updates.
