With WhatsApp you will soon be able to send photos and videos in original quality without compression

WhatsApp recently introduced the ability to send pictures in HD with a new toggle, but they’re still compressed before sending. The same applies to sending videos. But now WhatsApp has announced a feature that allows users to share photos and videos in their original quality. This is now possible in the beta version 2.23.18.12 of the WhatsApp app for Android “Choose original quality photos or videos.”

A new function to send uncompressed WhatsApp photos and videos will be available in the document selection menu. A screenshot taken by WABetaInfo shows a new “Select from Gallery” option in the app’s document picker, and specifically mentions the ability to send photos and videos in original quality.

Previously, users had to use a workaround to send media files in their original quality by changing their extensions to PDF or DOC. However, with the new feature, such tricks are completely eliminated. The ability to send photos and videos in original quality was first seen in WhatsApp code in January.

The ability to send uncompressed photos and videos in original quality is a welcome change, as Android and iOS users can now easily share full-resolution media files. Note that competing messengers, notably Telegram, have had a similar opportunity for a long time.
