With the Magic V Purse, Honor introduced a foldable smartphone that can be worn over the shoulder like a bag

In addition to the global version of the Magic V2 foldable smartphone, Honor introduced the Magic V Purse foldable smartphone concept as part of its presentation at IFA 2023 in Berlin. This novelty positions itself as a fashion accessory that can be carried in the hands or on the shoulder as a small handbag. They even offer interchangeable bracelets with different designs and lengths.

Unlike all previously foldable Honor smartphones, the main screen of the Magic V Purse cannot be folded inwards but outwards. This makes the smartphone similar to the early flexible smartphones from Huawei, the former mother of Honor. The smartphone could be very thin thanks to the display that can be folded outwards – Honor stated a thickness of “less than 9 mm” when folded. For comparison: the Magic V2 presented today has a thickness of 9.9 mm when folded. And even some conventional smartphones are thicker.

However, the most important feature offered by the fold-out display is the ability to change the appearance of the smartphone. The Always On Display feature offers live and even interactive wallpapers, giving your smartphone an unusual look when it’s locked. Hired top talent for the design including Bram Van Diepen, Burberry Menswear Design Director, contemporary artist Yunuene Esparza, dean of the International College of Chinese Academy of Arts Yuan Youmin and interdisciplinary artist Xiao Hui Wang (Xiao Hui Wang).

With interchangeable straps and a variety of wallpapers (viewable from both sides), Honor’s goal is to allow users (or rather, women) to customize the Honor V wallet to match any outfit. Wallpapers are interactive as they react to touch, changes in lighting and movement of the smartphone.

In addition, the Magic V Purse is made of sustainable materials, including “vegan leather” (synthetic leather) for the straps. “This concept is designed to push the fashion industry to adopt new technologies,”to encourage consumers to buy less and use longer“.

Honor did not provide any further information on the hardware, since the device is not intended for mass production. All she mentioned was that she had created a hinge that could withstand 400,000 folding cycles.

It is also not yet clear when and at what price the smartphone will go on sale. The only thing we’ve found out is that it won’t be out in certain Asian markets next year, but will be out sooner in Europe.

Earlier, Honor plans to open a platform for creating various lock screen background themes, which will allow developers and designers around the world to create their own versions of screensavers.
