Key developers of Blizzard Entertainment’s team-based shareware shooter Overwatch 2 participate in a forum Q&A session Reddit clarified some aspects of the transition from the first to the second part.

Recall that when Blizzard announced Overwatch 2, it said that Overwatch and Overwatch 2 users can play together on the same maps, but eventually the clients of the two shooters will unite.
Now, according to sequel director Aaron Keller, with the launch of Overwatch 2 Early Access should become “Replace Current Service”. Apparently, support for the original Overwatch will be discontinued.

As for the loot boxes, which won’t be in Overwatch 2, any unopened containers will be forcibly opened before launch and their contents moved to the owner’s inventory.
Overwatch 2 Early Access and Season 1 launches October 4th on PC (Battle.net), PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X and S, and Nintendo Switch. From June 28th to July 18th, the next phase of the closed beta test will take place on PC and consoles.
