WinRAR is a thing of the past: Windows 11 gets built-in support for RAR and other archives

Microsoft Vice President and Chief Product Officer Panos Panay (Panos Panay) announced in his blog that very soon Windows 11 will have built-in support for tar, 7-zip, rar, gz and other formats.

We implement built-in support for additional archive formats including tar, 7-zip, rar, gz and many more using the open source libarchive project. said Panos Panay. — This allows users to benefit from improved archiving functionality in the Windows desktop environment. A Microsoft spokesman said support for the new formats will appear in a new trial version of the operating system later this week.

Adding native support for tar, 7-zip, rar, gz and other formats will be very useful for Windows 11 users since they no longer need to install third-party applications to work with these files.
