It became known that Microsoft developers are planning to pin widgets to the Windows 11 desktop, which in general will be very reminiscent of Windows 7 “Gadgets”.
Since the launch of Windows 11 in 2021, platform users can access a widget bar that hides off-screen until the “Widgets” button is pressed on the taskbar. Through the panel, you can use the news widget as well as several other customizable widgets. In 2022, Microsoft opened the widget panel to third-party developers.
The development of this tool is systematically continued. The next step in this direction will be the ability to pin widgets to the Windows 11 desktop, which Microsoft says will increase interest in widgets. Users can place widgets anywhere on the desktop, meaning the new feature works much like it did in Windows 7.
The library of available widgets is filling up rather slowly, currently it contains 13 widgets. Developers are also expanding the capabilities of the widget panel itself. Not so long ago, a full-screen panel mode and an updated widget selector tool became available. It is not yet known when the possibility of placing widgets on the desktop will become public.
