WhatsApp will soon allow users to set reactions to messages

Testing reactions to messages in Messenger using emoji seems to be in its final stages. This is indicated by new screenshots published by the resource WABetaInfo, which regularly informs about new testing features in WhatsApp.

WhatsApp has been working on emoji reactions to messages for quite some time. The first evidence that this feature is in development appeared last summer. The new feature offers WhatsApp users a quick and easy way to reply to messages without having to write a full reply.

Early leaks shedding light on WhatsApp’s work on the new feature made it clear that the messaging team had yet to make a decision on its capabilities and looks. However, the latest images posted by WABetaInfo show an almost finished product. Just like Facebook Messenger, WhatsApp users have access to a set of emojis right above the message. Unfortunately, the images do not show the name of the emoji reaction panel.

Only six emojis are currently available. If one of them is selected by the user, it will be displayed below the message. Notably, the sister Facebook messenger includes a “+” button in the reaction options, allowing you to access the entire emoji set and react to the message with any of them.

According to WABetaInfo, WhatsApp is already planning to implement message reactions in the upcoming beta version of the app for iOS and Android before going live for all users. Reactions are reportedly end-to-end encrypted, as are all WhatsApp messages.
