WhatsApp launches business directory, making it easier to find restaurants, banks, and other institutions

In Meta’s WhatsApp messenger*, a new enterprise directory feature, enterprise search, is now available in Brazil, United Kingdom, Indonesia, Mexico and Colombia. Its launch follows limited testing conducted in Sao Paulo (Brazil) last year. The feature is available for both Android and iOS devices (except Brazil).

The new feature allows you to search companies by category, e.g. B. Banking, Food & Beverage, Travel, and search by company name. Large companies subscribing to the WhatsApp business platform in all five countries will appear in the directory, while in Brazil the directory will also be open to small businesses.

Meta* Speaking at a business summit in Brazil dedicated to WhatsApp, the new feature aims to help people stop wasting time looking up business phone numbers on websites and writing that data into their phone contacts. “The end goal here is to make it so that you can find, message, and buy from a business in the same WhatsApp chat.” – said the CEO of Meta* Mark Zuckerberg.

The launch of the new feature is due to the fact that WhatsApp is increasingly positioning itself as a messaging service not only with friends and family, but also with business partners. According to Meta*as of October 2020, over 175 million people around the world use WhatsApp to send messages to business accounts every day.

* It is included in the list of public associations and religious organizations for which the court made a final decision to liquidate or ban activities on the grounds provided for in Federal Law No. 114-FZ of July 25. 2002 “On Countering Extremist Activities”.
