WhatsApp development team announced about the introduction of support for sending videos with HD resolution, namely 1280 × 720 pixels, in Messenger. Earlier, in mid-August, the messenger received support for HD photos. Users now have the option to select HD format before sending a photo or video file.

It should be noted that recipients can choose the resolution in which they wish to upload the photo or video sent to them. “If you’re receiving a photo over a low-bandwidth connection, you can choose to keep the standard version or upgrade to HD for each photo.” – said the Messenger development team.
Previously, WhatsApp only supported sending compressed quality images, which was a major disadvantage compared to competing messaging services like iMessage.
