WhatsApp introduced HD video support. After the popular messenger recently announced support for HD photos, users can now send high definition videos on both iOS and Android platforms.
Previously, when sending a video via WhatsApp, its quality was compressed to 480p. Users can now send videos in HD, but the maximum resolution is limited to 720p (1280×720 pixels).
After selecting the desired video, the user can click the “New HD” button at the top of the screen. A dialog box will then appear in which you can select the quality – Standard or HD. The file size is also displayed. The video is then sent as usual.
It is worth noting that all images and videos sent via WhatsApp are protected by end-to-end encryption. HD video recipients will see a special badge informing them of the high quality of the video. This allows them to decide whether they have enough disk space or internet traffic to watch HD videos.
