Western Digital has introduced the WD_Black SN770, the latest addition to its SN700 series of affordable NVMe SSDs for gaming. The manufacturer claims up to 40% higher operating speed and 20% higher energy efficiency of the WD_Black SN770 models compared to the WD_Black SN750 SE models.
Like its predecessor, the novelty supports the PCIe 4.0 interface. It is available in sizes from 250GB to 2TB. The WD_Black SN770 is based on a Western Digital proprietary controller. The 250GB model has sequential read speeds of 4000MB/s and write speeds of 2000MB/s. The 500 GB model already offers 5,000 or 4,000 MB/s. For older models with a volume of 1 and 2 TB, the write speed is specified as 5150 MB / s and the read speed as 4850 and 4900 MB / s, respectively. Performance with random access to data for 250, 500 GB, 1 and 2 TB reaches 240/470, 460/800, 740/800 and 740/800 thousand read/write IOPS, respectively.
WD_Black SN770 drives start at $60 for a 250GB model. The 500GB version is priced at $80 by the company. For models with 1 and 2 TB volume, the manufacturer charges 130 and 270 dollars respectively. All new items come with a five-year manufacturer’s guarantee.
