Western Digital introduced 22 and 26 TB hard drives, and not just for data centers

Western Digital has announced the availability of samples of 22TB CMR and 26TB SMR (tile-type) traditional hard drives. These are the first 10-platter drives and will be widely available this summer.

Western Digital introduced 22TB hard drives in both the Ultrastar series (model DC HC570) for servers and data centers, and the conditional consumer Red Pro, Purple Pro, and Gold series for NAS, video surveillance systems, and heavy-duty businesses. class systems. All consist of disks with a volume of 2.2 TB.

A 26 TB drive, in turn, is represented by only one model – the Ultrastar DC HC670 server. It uses disks of 2.6 TB. Like the 22 TB Ultrastar DC HC570 model, this drive is primarily aimed at large cloud providers, which are now being supplied with their samples.

Western Digital has not disclosed all technical characteristics of new products. However, emphasizes the use of caching technology OptiNAND, which provides acceleration when writing large blocks randomly. It should be noted that due to this technology, especially its component called ArmorCache, the speed is increased by 40% for blocks of 256 KB and up to 80% for blocks of 1 MB. In both cases these are peak values.
