At the request of journalists of the publication Eurogamer Digital Extremes representatives also stated that the company would no longer be able to act as publisher for the multiplayer role-playing game Wayfinder in the future.
“We had to say goodbye to a number of hard-working and valued team members and are working with Airship Syndicate to give them full control of Wayfinder in the coming months.”“ explained Digital Extremes.
The Warframe developer did not name the exact number of employees laid off in 2023, but the studio’s former art director Ron Davey said so on LinkedIn “approx. 30 people” were laid off, including the entire external development team.
Last month, James Schmalz resigned as CEO of Digital Extremes. Former creative director Steve Sinclair has taken over the role and intends to continue overseeing development of the studio’s next game, Soulframe.
