Valve has enabled ray tracing on Steam Deck, but only in one game so far

portal wccftech noticed that the Studio Valve Approved Update 3.4.6 Beta for the Steam Deck OS operating system used by the Steam Deck portable gaming computer.

Beta 3.4.6 is notable for the fact that it implements on Steam Deck support for ray tracing technology in the shooter DOOM Eternal by Bethesda Softworks and developers at id Software.

After the announcement, Valve engineer Pierre-Loup Griffais showed Screenshot of DOOM Eternal on Steam Deck with ray tracing – judging by the graphics, the performance is stable (35 fps at the moment captured).

DOOM Eternal isn’t the latest in ray tracing, but the tech helps improve lighting and reflections. minimum system requirements not too high for RTX gaming – RTX 2060 for 1080p resolution.

Ray tracing in DOOM Eternal on Steam Deck works through the Vulkan Graphics API, but after gripValve is also working on implementing DirectX Raytracing (DXR), which will certainly be more demanding.

In addition to ray tracing support in DOOM Eternal, the Steam Deck graphics driver update to Mesa 23.1 brings fixes for graphics issues in Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty and several future games.

Previously, OC3D reported that over 8,000 games from the Steam library are currently available on Steam Deck. Almost 3,000 of them (2988) have verified status, including recently Cyberpunk 2077.
