Gears studio The Coalition has unveiled a tech demo of Unreal Engine 5 called The Cavern running on Xbox Series X. Kate Rayner, CTO of The Coalition).
According to Reiner, Unreal Engine 5’s Nanite geometry system delivers more than 100 times more image detail than Unreal Engine 4. This technology allows The Coalition artists to create materials with tens of millions of polygons that scale into scenes with billions of polygons permit. “Just look at the details of the eyeball. The number of verticals and polygons is the same as the entire character in previous generation games.She added.
Reiner also praised the new Lumen global lighting system. Lighting is fully dynamic and real-time, a highly requested feature only possible now in Unreal Engine on consoles. “Lumen is a game changer”– She said.
The CTO of The Coalition also stated that the studio has been working with Unreal Engine 5 for over a year.
Unreal Engine 5 is now available to all developers, but some, including The Coalition, got their hands on the engine much earlier. Therefore, already this year we will be able to see the first games on Unreal Engine 5 – for example Redfall.
