Unlike most games depicting combat, This War of Mine does not put the player on the side of the military, but on the side of the civilian population, who in any case try to survive in unfavorable conditions for it.

“The tone and authenticity with which the game conveys the harsh reality makes it a useful tool when engaging with students about wars, their history and nature, as well as about ethics, psychology, the value of human dignity or how to behave in situations involving imminent threat to life.”explain the educational value of This War of Mine in the Polish government.

This War of Mine was released on PC (Steam) in November 2014, then ported to Android and iOS (2015), PS4 and Xbox One (2016), Nintendo Switch (2018) as well as PS5, Xbox Series X and S (2022) . Sales of the game reached 7 million copies for the whole time.
