The Windows 11 22H2 error can slow down remote file

The Windows 11 22H2 error can slow down remote file downloads and local file copying by 40%

Upgrading to Windows 11 22H2 can bring not only new features but also significant problems for PC users. A Microsoft representative confirmed rumors that the speed of downloading files from a remote computer and even copying local versions can be slowed down by 40% in this version of the operating system.

According to the Chief Program Manager at Microsoft Ned Pyle (Ned Pyle), the performance drop is typical for the Windows 11 22H2 version when copying files from a remote computer using the Server Message Block (SMB) protocol – this was previously reported by Independent Network whistleblowers .

To date, there is no exact data on whether copying files slows down when downloading from a remote server, or initially there are problems with accessing them from a remote PC. Apparently, Microsoft doesn’t have any precise information either, as Pyle says the problem isn’t in the SMB code and it’s not possible to give a precise timeline for the problem to be fully fixed. Teamwork is now underway at Microsoft to find a solution.

In the cases mentioned, a slowdown is usually noticed when copying or downloading “heavy” files of many gigabytes from a remote computer to a computer whose operating system has received an update to Windows 11 2022 Update (22H2). It is noteworthy that in other versions of Windows a similar problem is not registered.

According to Pyle, copying content using command-line utilities like Robocopy or Xcopy with the /J option can be a temporary fix. A Microsoft representative gave a code example:

robocopy \\someserver\someshare c:\somefolder somefile.ned /J

In this case you need to replace the “examples” with the correct path and filename.

This isn’t the first issue with Microsoft software recently. Last week the company reported an error as a result of installing Windows 11 22H2 that could affect critical functions in printers using the Microsoft IPP class driver or the universal print class driver. Installing an update can prevent you from using advanced printer features, from color printing to duplex printing, changing the paper size, paper type, and more.
