Sony Interactive Entertainment has reportedly registered a new PlayStation 5 model in Japan certificate for product design. The console received the serial number CFI-1200 and will include updated radio equipment.
The product has been certified by the Japanese Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications, which ensures that radio and wireless communication devices meet certain technical standards. Specifically, the PlayStation 5 consoles use the CFI-1XXX model numbering scheme, while the updated model released in 2021 uses the CFI-11XX scheme.
It was reported last May that Sony Interactive Entertainment would start production of the PlayStation 5 with a different design in 2022. The console must use a 6nm processor from AMD. Taiwanese business resource DigiTimes explainedsuppliers, including semiconductor fab TSMC, are planning to start production of the updated PlayStation 5 between the second and third quarters of this year.
Redesigned last year, the PlayStation 5 was purely component-focused and underwent no major external changes. This can happen again with the new CFI-1200.
