The success of The Last Of Us has boosted sales of Sony games

Sony Group Corp said today that the success of the hit series, co-produced with television network HBO, has boosted sales of the game series it’s based on – a prime example of the company repurposing its popular franchises.

We saw very clearly that every time an episode of this series was released, the sales of the game skyrocketed.“- said Jim Ryan (Jim Ryan), CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment, at a briefing for investors. The success of the series is a prime example of Sony’s efforts to develop the business in many different ways after it develops from an electronics manufacturer into an entertainment giant spanning games, music and movies.

Sony also expects PC sales to reach $450 million in the current fiscal year (up from $80 million two years earlier). On the console side, supply concerns have eased and PlayStation 5 sales should match and even exceed PlayStation 4 sales this fiscal year. Meanwhile, investors are waiting for more details on the expansion of shareware and mobile games.
