Interview with Morio Kishimoto, head of platform development at Sonic Frontiers IGN explained the concept of an open area, which Sega refers to as an open world in a game.
In platform games with separate levels, there is a global world map with a next level selection. In Sonic Frontiers, this map (open area) is fully explorable, filled with platforming sections and puzzles.
According to Kishimoto, “A playable world map with elements of individual levels has never been created before”. The developer is confident that the free space will “Secret Weapon” Sonic Frontiers.
Kishimoto calls the open area of Sonic Frontiers a true evolution of the traditional world map, adapted for high-speed gameplay. The new structure aims to make the difficulty curve smoother.
The passage of Sonic Frontiers should take 20-30 hours, but perfectionists may need twice as much. Due to the increased development time, we decided to introduce a level system and a skill tree into the game.
What will not be included in Sonic Frontiers (and all subsequent releases) is Sonic kissing with people. resonant scene by Sonic the Hedgehog (2006) would be the first and last in the history of the series.
Sonic Frontiers is expected to be released later this year on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X and S, and Nintendo Switch. After recent demonstrations, players urged to postpone the premiere, but the developers believe in their project.
