If the number of 5G users exceeds the billion mark within the given period, this means that the “nine-digit” indicators of 5G technology have been reached two years faster than 4G networks at once. Ericsson claims that 5G is the fastest growing generation of mobile communications today.

Ericsson also anticipates that telecom operators will continue to actively implement fifth-generation cellular solutions and that momentum for the development of fixed wireless access will continue to increase. The global data traffic provided by cellular networks is actually doubling every two years.

At the same time, however, the number of 4G subscribers is also growing. The corresponding user base grew by 41 million users from July to September and is expected to reach 5.2 billion subscribers to certain tariffs by the end of the year. At the same time, the number of mobile connections in general will exceed 8.4 billion in the same period.

By 2028, the global 5G user base is projected to grow to 5 billion, and 5G networks will account for 55% of all mobile subscribers. In general, the number of connections is expected to exceed 9.2 billion in 2028.
