The new patch has ruined the performance of the improved The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt when played without ray tracing – the video comparison is not encouraging

Patch 4.01, released yesterday, February 2nd, for an improved version of the fantasy action role-playing game The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt promised performance improvements. At least on PC, the update didn’t do its job and in some cases even made it worse.

When report Steam users with PCs of various configurations, in most cases, have noticed a noticeable decrease in performance (up to 50%) after the update, while rare lucky ones report only a slight increase.

At the journalist wccftechFor example, on a PC with a Core i7-10700, RTX 3070 and 16 GB of RAM, the game in Toussaint (4K, DLSS in quality mode, without ray tracing) output 60-90 fps before the patch, and after that it doesn’t even reach 50 fps .

Judging by the video by blogger Lootward (Ryzen 5 5600X, RTX 3070), The Witcher 3 received the biggest performance drop from the patch when playing without ray tracing, while the frame rate hardly changed with ray tracing.

The extended version of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt was released on December 14th, 2022 on PC, PS5, Xbox Series X and S. How update 4.01 affected the performance of the console versions (they were also promised performance improvements) is still unclear.
