Patch 4.01, released yesterday, February 2nd, for an improved version of the fantasy action role-playing game The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt promised performance improvements. At least on PC, the update didn’t do its job and in some cases even made it worse.

At the journalist wccftechFor example, on a PC with a Core i7-10700, RTX 3070 and 16 GB of RAM, the game in Toussaint (4K, DLSS in quality mode, without ray tracing) output 60-90 fps before the patch, and after that it doesn’t even reach 50 fps .
Judging by the video by blogger Lootward (Ryzen 5 5600X, RTX 3070), The Witcher 3 received the biggest performance drop from the patch when playing without ray tracing, while the frame rate hardly changed with ray tracing.
The extended version of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt was released on December 14th, 2022 on PC, PS5, Xbox Series X and S. How update 4.01 affected the performance of the console versions (they were also promised performance improvements) is still unclear.
