According to portal GamesIndustry.bizTears of the Kingdom had the biggest launch in series history (by a wide margin), beating Breath of the Wild (2017) by more than 2.7x.

Tears of the Kingdom has already reached eighth place in franchise history in terms of regional sales and second in terms of total sales behind Ocarina of Time (1998), Twilight Princess (2006) and Breath of the Wild . The price increase to 70 dollars was not in vain.

The novelty wasn’t the biggest launch for the Nintendo Switch. At launch, the Pokémon Scarlet and Violet outsold 12%. However, in terms of sales, Tears of the Kingdom still set a record for console, outperforming Pokemon by 8%.
