Jens Andersson was appointed the design director of the game – this information was confirmed by the developer to the resource staff. He will work alongside creative director Axel Torvenius, artistic director of the latest Wolfenstein, and executive producers Todd Howard and Jerk Gustafsson.

Andersson already knows his current colleagues. In the past he worked with many MachineGames employees in another Swedish studio, Starbreeze. Andersson was one of the founding members and also served as lead game designer on The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay (2004) and The Darkness (2007). In the first case he was also a lead programmer, in the second case a screenwriter. He later worked as a freelance designer on MachineGames projects. In total, more than 20 The Darkness developers are involved in the creation of the Indiana Jones adaptation.

Andersson named his new role “big step” professionally and privately “Salvation”: Formerly slated to direct the production of the Indiana Jones game at Lucas Arts, but it was canceled before development began. After leaving the studio, he created Yokus Island Express, a pinball adventure platform game for which he won a BAFTA (Best Debut) award, and Colors Live, a painting app for Nintendo Switch.

“In 2009, I accepted an offer to move to San Francisco to lead development on an Indiana Jones game, but it was canceled before I even got there.Andersson remembered. — Now I have the chance to do what I originally hoped to do, only this time – with my good old friends too. Joining MachineGames is like coming home. There are amazing people here that I worked with during The Chronicles of Riddick and The Darkness, as well as new ones whose talent amazes me every day.”

Andersson added that thanks to an unusual team and “one of the largest publishers in the world” the game will fail “Special”.

This week Howard revealed on Lex Fridman’s podcast that the project will happen “a unique genre mix” and “Declaration of Love to Indiana Jones”. He called MachineGames with his approach to storytelling “Ideal” for such a game.

An Indiana Jones game with an original story was announced in January 2021. Release date and platform are still unknown. According to unconfirmed information from Windows Central journalist Jez Corden, Microsoft does not intend to make it exclusive to PC and Xbox.
