The iPhone 15 has officially replaced the proprietary Lightning connector that Apple has used since 2012 with the universal USB Type-C, and accessory manufacturers are actively responding to this change. Most notably, Backbone confirmed this week that its existing line of USB Type-C gaming controllers will work with the new iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro.

Backbone One is a fairly popular controller that turns your smartphone into a portable gaming console. Historically, the Backbone One was available in two different variants: one with a Lighting port and the other with a USB Type-C port. With the iPhone 15 transitioning to USB Type-C, Backbone has confirmed that the existing Backbone One with USB Type-C port is fully compatible with the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro series.
Owners of the USB Type-C version of the Backbone One can get a software update for the controller that adds iPhone 15 support via the Backbone app on Android. New buyers of the Backbone One with USB Type-C will receive full support for Android smartphones and iPhone 15 out of the box.
According to the manufacturer Backbone One “Provides high-quality gameplay for all your favorite controller-compatible games, such as Call of Duty: Mobile, Minecraft, Genshin Impact and most Apple Arcade games.” Additionally, Backbone One is compatible with streaming apps offered by Xbox, PlayStation and Steam. You can find a list of currently compatible games here Here. Popular cloud gaming services such as Xbox Cloud Gaming, NVIDIA GeForce NOW and Amazon Luna are also supported by the Backbone One controller.
Backbone One USB Type-C costs $100 and is available in two versions – a “standard” configuration and a version designed specifically for PlayStation fans in the style of the console’s controllers.
In addition to Backbone, other manufacturers have also confirmed that their USB Type-C gaming controllers are compatible with the iPhone 15 series, including Rotor Riot, Razer Kishi V2 and GameSir X3.
