The iPhone 15 Pro Max will account for 35-40% of all next-gen iPhone sales

According to industry analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple is aiming for the flagship iPhone 15 Pro Max to account for 35-40% of all new iPhone shipments in the early stages of sales. The new flagship is also expected to register 10-20% higher shipments compared to last year’s iPhone 14 Pro Max.

One of the main features that is expected to attract consumers to buy a new flagship is the presence of a new camera with a periscope lens. The camera supports 5x or 6x optical zoom, which is a significant improvement over the 3x zoom in the current generation models. This year, the periscope lens camera will be exclusive to the iPhone 15 Pro Max, and next year it will also appear on the cheaper iPhone 16 Pro.

“The iPhone 15 Pro Max, the most expensive iPhone, accounts for 35% to 40% of iPhone 15 series shipments, the highest share ever. iPhone 15 Pro Max shipments in Q2 2024 will be 10-20% higher than iPhone 14 Pro Max shipments over the same period. This means Apple is optimistic about selling the periscope camera, which will only be available on the iPhone 15 Pro Max.Kuo said in a post.

Apple, along with periscope lens supplier Largan, is expected to ship 15 to 20 million iPhone 15 Pro Max by the end of the year, with shipments rising 70 to 80% to about 30 million units next year. The analyst notes that the cost of a periscope lens is three to four times higher than the price of traditional cameras used in the iPhone. That means Largan will see significant gains from its partnership with Apple. The iPhone 15 Pro Max’s new lens and a few other improvements could result in the Pro models costing at least $100 more than older current-gen devices.
