The Head of Respawn: In Battlefield 2042, Studio DICE has strayed too far from its roots

Respawn Entertainment CEO Vince Zampella shared his thoughts on the poor start and criticism of Battlefield 2042 in an interview with the publication bars. In his opinion, the latest installment in the franchise has strayed too far from the classic gameplay of the series.

The former Infinity Ward studio head believes that DICE tried to implement some things that were too ambitious for the team, but didn’t seem to give the gameplay development the attention it deserved. Because of this, the innovations turned out to be not so interesting and exciting, which led to criticism of the project from the community.

And those weren’t bad ideas for Battlefield, Zampella said, but the way the studio was set up just didn’t allow the team to best execute what they envisioned.

In May, DICE abandoned the 128-player mode in Battlefield 2042. Also, the studio recently confirmed plans to introduce a class system designed to make the project more similar to previous installments in the series.

Battlefield 2042 was released on November 19, 2021 for PC, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X and S, and PlayStation 5.
