HBO has never officially announced when to wait for the show’s release. However, thanks to the Directors Guild of Canada, it was revealed that filming of the adaptation (it will take place in the city of Calgary) began on July 5, 2021 and will last until June 8, 2022.
In an interview with Deadline, Bloys confirmed that filming is indeed ongoing and don’t expect the premiere before the end of the year: “[Сериал] will not be released in 2022 – they are still filming in Canada. I think you’ll see it in 2023.”.

“I’ve already watched a few episodes and I’m very excited. Craig (Mazin – approx.) made Chernobyl for us. He’s a fantastic writer and director. What I’ve seen looks great, I’m excited, but the release isn’t in 2022.”said Bloys.
The HBO series will take the events of the original The Last of Us as a basis, but complement them. The roles of Joel and Ellie will be played by The Mandalorian star Pedro Pascal and Game of Thrones star Bella Ramsey.
