The latest Steam Hardware Survey statistics, compiled at the end of August, first mentioned the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 graphics card. At the time of its debut on the platform, its share was 0.23% of users. This may seem insignificant on the one hand, but it should be noted that the Radeon RX 7900 XTX graphics card, released seven months earlier than the RTX 4060, has the same share of users on the platform.

Despite the downsides of only 8GB of memory while supporting a narrow 128-bit bus, the GeForce RTX 4060 seems to be gaining popularity among Steam users. However, this can be explained by the fact that this graphics card is the cheapest of the GeForce RTX 4000 series and therefore attracts more attention from the mass audience. According to test reports, it is noticeably faster than its predecessor, the GeForce RTX 3060 with 12 GB of memory, and at the same time proved to be cheaper when it went on sale.

By the way, the GeForce RTX 3060, released in February 2021 and appearing two months later in the Steam statistics with a share of 0.17% of users, took the title of the most popular graphics card in August 2023, considering desktop and mobile versions, or second place , after the GeForce GTX 1650 if you only consider desktop solutions.
The total share of GeForce RTX 40 series graphics cards on the Steam platform was 5.66% in August. That’s 1.94 percentage points up from a month ago, or 52% up in relative terms. In fact, the current generation of NVIDIA graphics cards, compared to their predecessors, has a higher growth dynamics of popularity on the platform. During the same 10-month observation period, the share of GeForce RTX 30 series graphics cards on the platform was only 4.35%.
In addition to the Radeon RX 7900 XTX with a 0.23% share of users of other models of Radeon RX 7000 graphics cards, there were no Steam statistics in August. The previous series of AMD accelerators didn’t shine with results either. Their total share on the platform, including mobile GPUs, was 2.95% in August. The company recently launched the Radeon RX 7900 GRE, RX 7600, RX 7800 XT and 7700 XT graphics cards. How quickly they show up in platform stats is not an easy question.
Intel Arc Alchemist graphics cards are still missing from Steam statistics, although accelerators have been on the market for more than a year. However, they are not sold in all countries.
