Updated versions of both games will be released in a bundle called Max Payne 1&2. Northlight from Remedy was chosen as the engine (used eg in Control).
Max Payne 1&2’s budget is comparable to a typical AAA Remedy game. The development is funded by Rockstar Games – remakes are also released. Remedy will begin receiving sales licenses after the project pays off for Rockstar.
The first two Max Payne titles were developed by Remedy and published by Rockstar.
According to Sam Houser, co-founder of Rockstar Games, Remedy Entertainment initiated the modernization of Max Payne and Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne.
Max Payne 1 & 2 is in development for PC, PS5, Xbox Series X and S. No release date has been given for the remakes, but development is known to be still in the concept stages.
