on the forums Reddit notes that at least some of the main shortcomings of the problematic PC version of the action-adventure The Last of Us Part I are fixed by replacing a single library.
Recall that The Last of Us Part I port was criticized for lengthy shader compilation, long downloads, frequent crashes, slowdowns, poor optimization, and bugs (the game has “mostly negative” reviews on Steam).
As players found out, The Last of Us Part I on PC uses Oodle 9.2.6 decompression library which for one reason or another is not working properly. Replacing it with an outdated version (9.2.5) improves the situation.
Compilation of shaders is accelerated, performance is increased, and the intensity of “stuttering” is reduced (the end effect of each is individual). The file must be downloaded (e.g. from Nexus Mods) and place it in the root of the game.
Meanwhile for the PC version of The Last of Us Part I came out the first patch is v1.0.1.5. The patch aims to improve stability and performance and also introduces the collection of additional crash diagnostic information.
Measured at first reviewswhether the patch did not work: In the Steam forums, users report persistent performance problems and crashes. A major update is expected soon.
The Last of Us Part I is a remake of the 2013 original The Last of Us. The game hit Steam and the Epic Games Store on March 28th, 2023, almost seven months after its debut on the PlayStation 5.
