Following the success of Larian’s Baldur’s Gate 3, Dungeons & Dragons franchise owners Wizards of the Coast have teamed up with another prominent developer to create a game set in the legendary fantasy universe.
We’re talking about the Swedish studio Starbreeze Entertainment, known for the cooperative shooter series Payday. Your Dungeons & Dragons game receive Codename Project Baxter.
Baxter is an action-adventure game based on Unreal Engine 5 with co-op multiplayer, cross-play and game service elements (community involvement, long-term support).
Project Baxter is expected to be released in 2026. “All major platforms”. According to Starbreeze CEO Tobias Sjögren, the game is in development “At its peak”.
Wizards of the Coast has no doubts about Starbreeze: “Given their impressive games and their passion for Dungeons & Dragons, we are confident they will create an experience that will delight fans around the world.”.
Fans will likely have to be patient: Project Baxter is still over two years away from release and Starbreeze is currently focused on Payday 3, which finally received its first major patch in November after a rocky launch.
