The independent American studio Nightdive published on the Kickstarter crowdfunding service February development update the upcoming remake of the cult shooter System Shock.
As it became known, the updated version of System Shock has already reached the production stage, where the game can be played from start to finish. The team is currently polishing and polishing the levels.
In addition, the developers have confirmed that they still plan to release a remake of System Shock on the PlayStation and Xbox consoles, as well as running a closed “beta” for contributors on Kickstarter. Details will be announced soon.
As for the release date announcement, the authors don’t want any further delay, so they are in no hurry with the details. Nightdive Studios assured that they want to do everything right and the game will definitely come out.
About 15 people are working on the remake (even fewer than the original System Shock). The project team is reported to be separate from other teams within Nightdive Studios.
The developers also mentioned that System Shock 2: Enhanced Edition is scheduled to be released around the same timeframe as the System Shock remake. The VR version of the Enhanced Edition is also a work in progress but has a lower priority.
The updated System Shock is announced for PC (Steam, GOG, Epic Games Store), PS4 and Xbox One, but the current-gen consoles are also mentioned in the release. The remake is expected to be released later this year.
