The Core i9-14900K was, on average, just 2% faster than the AMD Ryzen 9 7950X3D in Intel’s own tests

The flagship 24-core Intel Core i9-14900K processor from the updated Raptor Lake-S Refresh series is on average 2% faster than the flagship 16-core AMD Ryzen 9 7950X3D chip with expanded 3D V-cache memory. This is evidenced by the schedule of internal gaming tests from Intel itself, which apparently was leaked to the network from the company’s Chinese office before the official announcement of the new chips.

According to the picture which one divided HXL Informant: In 9 out of 25 gaming tests, the Ryzen 9 7950X3D processor was faster than the Core i9-14900K. In return, the new Intel product showed higher performance in 15 other games. In just one game, both chips performed the same.

The performance difference between the Ryzen 9 7950X3D and the Core i9-14900K ranged from 23% in favor of the first (Dota 2) to 23% in favor of the second (Metro Exodus, Starfield). This means that the Core i9-14900K was, on average, only 2% faster than AMD’s flagship processor. Intel conducted all internal gaming tests at 1080p resolution.

Unfortunately, the existing slide does not provide any information about the cost of the Core i9-14900K processor. However, taking the results into account, the updated Raptor Lake Refresh is unlikely to cost more than the same Ryzen 9 7950X3D. According to VideoCardz, the latter is now offered for $684 and is often associated with discounts. According to the latest rumors, Intel Raptor Lake-S refresh chips will go on sale from October 17th.
