The blogger showed how to beat Baldur’s Gate 3 playing as a cat

The fantasy role-playing game Baldur’s Gate 3 is full of possibilities, but is Larian Studios’ project flexible enough to allow you to complete the playthrough in cat form? Blogger Proxy Gate Tactician took on the task of answering this question.

As Proxy Gate Tactician quickly learned, cats are not meant to be used in Baldur’s Gate 3: they are extremely weak, unable to open many doors or carry on conversations with people. Therefore, the blogger allowed himself a few indulgences.

The YouTuber began playing as a cat after the prologue – that’s when his druid named Felix unlocked the Wild Shape skill to transform into a beast – and allowed him to transform back into a human during cutscenes and while in the camp.

In the first act, due to the weakness of his cat squad (four cats could barely kill one goblin), Proxy Gate Tactician relied mainly on stealth, traps, necromancy and explosive barrels.

In the second act, the blogger reached the sixth (panther form) and then the eighth level (saber-tooth tiger form), which significantly simplified the battles, but interactions inaccessible to cats had to be circumvented using bugs or speedrunner tricks.

The final boss was devoured by a squad of four saber-toothed tigers in just a couple of moves – Proxy Gate Tactician reached the final credits in 41 hours and 22 minutes. Summing up, the blogger concluded that the worst enemy of cats is still doors.

Baldur’s Gate 3 left early access on PC (Steam, GOG) in August 2023, and has since debuted on macOS, PS5, Xbox Series X and S. A speedrunner showed how to complete all three acts of the game in 20 minutes at the end of January Mae.
