The Aya Neo Next portable console will still get the new Ryzen 7 5825U, and there will be models on Ryzen 6000 by the end of the year

Aya explained why the new Aya Neo Next gaming handhelds couldn’t use 6nm Ryzen 6000 Zen 3+ processors. Keep in mind that the manufacturer unveiled three versions of the box last week based on the AMD Ryzen 7 5800U Cezanne generation with integrated Radeon Vega 8 graphics.

With Aya Neo Next’s main competitor, the Steam Deck, due out in February, many expected the Chinese company’s console to offer new Rembrandt processors with integrated RDNA 2 graphics architecture (the same as the one in the valve console). However, Aya stated that a small company like her couldn’t reserve AMD’s latest APUs for itself. The console maker also revealed why it has postponed the console’s first announcement from late December to early January. The reason was some changes in the technical characteristics of the console due to the announcement of 7 nm AMD Barcelo processors on the Zen 3 architecture, which AMD presented together with the Ryzen 6000.

Aya noted that the Neo Next console will get a Ryzen 7 5825U processor in some configurations. This is an eight-core chip that works in the frequency range from 2.0 to 4.5 GHz, which is 100 MHz higher in the first and second case than the Ryzen 7 5800U. At the same time, the processor’s integrated graphics core works at 1.8 GHz, which is 200 MHz lower than that of the Cezanne chip.

The new processor will receive a regular version of Aya Neo Next and a version of Neo Next Pro. Only the Ryzen 7 5800U is offered for the Neo Next Advance version.

For the same reason, at the time the console was announced at CES 2022, Aya didn’t announce the option of opting for the Ryzen 7 5825U – the original promotional materials were already ready by then. The company didn’t change anything at the last minute.

The company also announced that it would be releasing a portable set-top box based on the Ryzen 6000. However, this won’t happen until the end of 2022, when shipments of new processors get better and AMD has time for smaller manufacturers.

Despite all of this, the portable Aya Neo Next box looks less attractive compared to the Steam Deck. If only because the latter is sold at half the price of the Chinese solution, even with the maximum configuration.
