The source noted that the new BYD battery packs with a capacity of 55 kWh are already arriving at the Tesla plant in Germany. The batteries are equipped with LFP blade cells developed by BYD to reduce the risk of fire compared to traditional lithium-ion cells. As you know, LFP batteries are cheaper to produce than lithium-ion batteries, although they have their drawbacks – they have lower energy intensity compared to analogues with a nickel-based cathode, which means that electric vehicles with such batteries have a reduced range .

According to documents obtained by TeslaMag, Tesla has already received approval from European regulators to launch the Model Y with the new battery. In these documents, the new version of the Y model is referred to as Type 005 (in internal documents – Y7CR). The range of the new model is estimated at 440 km.

The resource Electrive reported that initially they were supposed to equip the Model Y electric car, released in Germany, with batteries based on 4680 cells, but due to their lack, they are assembling a crossover with batteries based on 2170 cells, which the company has had for a long time used in most of its electric vehicles. .
