The court ruling, adopted as part of an investigation into riots organized by supporters of the country’s former president in Brazil’s capital earlier this month, said Telegram was ordered to suspend five accounts. During the investigation, it was discovered that some politicians and influencers were using Telegram accounts to spread hateful content and incite to undermine law and order.

Despite this decision, Telegram has not suspended Congressman Ferreira’s account. The court considered that the messenger’s administration challenged the decision made during the investigation, which became the basis for imposing a fine. “Significant non-compliance by the relevant service providers is objective evidence of acceptability of continued commission of the offenses under investigation”so the court decision.

According to available data, Telegram has to pay the fine within five days after approval of the court order. Official representatives of the service have not yet commented on this issue. Note that last March, Judge Moraes ruled to ban Telegram in the country for repeatedly refusing to ban accounts whose owners were spreading misinformation. A few days later, Telegram blocked the violators’ accounts, after which the judge annulled the decision.
