Tecno unveils Phantom V Fold: Dimensity 9000 Plus book smartphone with large screen and 5000mAh battery

Tecno presented its first foldable smartphone at MWC 2023. The novelty called Phantom V Fold is made in book form factor. The device is based on productive filling.

The Phantom V Fold weighs an impressive 299 grams. The dimensions of the device when closed are 159.4 × 72 × 14.2-14.5mm and when open it is 159.4 × 140.4 × 6.9mm. The dimensions and weight of the device are explained by the presence of a large display and a battery.

The Phantom V Fold is based on the MediaTek Dimensity 9000+ processor. This is an octa-core chipset manufactured using a 4nm process technology. It has one Cortex-X2 core running at 3200MHz, three Cortex-A710 cores running at 2850MHz and four Cortex-A510 cores running at 1800MHz. It also uses the Mali-G710 MC10 GPU. In terms of performance, Dimensity 9000+ is comparable to Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 on which, for example, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold4 is based.

The Phantom V Fold’s external display measures 6.42 inches. It is made using LTPO AMOLED technology, supports a resolution of 1080 × 2550 pixels and a refresh rate of 120 Hz. The dimensions of the internal display, made using the same technology, are 7.85 inches. It has a resolution of 2000 × 2296 pixels and also supports a 120 Hz refresh rate. Both displays have a peak brightness of 1100 cd/m²2. The smartphone’s main screen is slightly larger than the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold4, but not as big as the Xiaomi Mix Fold 2, Honor Magic Vs or Vivo X Fold+.

The main unit of smartphone cameras contains three sensors. The main sensor is a 50-megapixel 1/1.3-inch sensor equipped with f/1.9 optics. The resolution of the second sensor (telephoto lens) is also 50 megapixels. It supports 2x digital zoom.

It also uses a 13-megapixel sensor for ultra-wide shots with a 120-degree field of view. There is a 32-megapixel selfie camera on the outer side of the display and a 16-megapixel selfie camera on the inner side of the large display.


The device supports dual SIM cards, supports Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth 5.2, A2DP, LE, GPS, GLONASS, GALILEO, BDS. There’s an FM radio here, but no 3.5mm audio jack. There are also stereo speakers and a USB Type-C port.

Tecno Phantom V Fold is powered by a 5000mAh battery. It supports 45W fast wired charging. There is no wireless charging support. According to the manufacturer, the device charges up to 40% in just 15 minutes. A full charge cycle takes 55 minutes.

The Phantom V Fold will go on sale in the second quarter. Initially, the device will be available to residents of India. There, the novelty costs 89,999 rupees (about 1,088 US dollars) for the version with 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage space and 99,999 rupees (about 1,209 US dollars) for the version with 12 GB of RAM and 512 GB of storage space. Tecno offers discounts for early buyers. In this case, the cost of the device starts at 79,999 rupees (about $966).
