TECNO took part in the Mobile World Congress for the first time this year. And the debut was very, very bright: the company presented its first foldable smartphone with a flexible display, as well as a number of other new products and interesting solutions. Here we will talk about all this in more detail.
PHANTOM V convolution
The main novelty from TECNO is PHANTOM V Fold, the first foldable smartphone from this manufacturer. At the same time, this is the first flexible smartphone based on the flagship 4 nm single-chip platform MediaTek Dimensity 9000+. According to the manufacturer, this chip ensures smooth operation with low power consumption. The chip is supplemented by 12 GB of RAM and 256 or 512 GB of flash memory.
PHANTOM V Fold is a flip phone. Its main screen is based on a 7.85-inch AMOLED folding panel with a resolution of 2K + (2296 × 2000 pixels) and a dynamic refresh rate of up to 120 Hz. The screen is slightly larger than the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold4 and at the same time points When folded, the new TECNO does not show any gaps that are characteristic of a Samsung smartphone. The external screen is also built on an AMOLED panel, but it has a diagonal of 6.42 inches, a Full HD+ resolution (2550 × 1080 pixels) and a frequency of up to 120 Hz.
The smartphone is equipped with five cameras: three main and a pair of front cameras, one on each of the displays. The triple main camera includes a 50-megapixel main module on a 1/1.3-inch sensor with f/1.85 optics, a portrait lens with a 50-megapixel image sensor and 2x optical zoom, and a wide-angle module with 13 megapixel sensor Two front cameras with 16 MP and 32 MP are located on the main and external screen, respectively, the external display.
The Phantom V Fold weighs an impressive 299 grams. The dimensions of the device when closed are 159.4 × 72 × 14.2-14.5mm and when open it is 159.4 × 140.4 × 6.9mm. The device supports the installation of two SIM cards (both with 5G), supports Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Bluetooth 5.2, GPS, GLONASS, GALILEO, BDS. There are stereo speakers and a USB Type-C port, but no 3.5mm audio-out. Tecno Phantom V Fold is powered by a 5000mAh battery. It supports 45W wired fast charging, but not wireless charging. According to the manufacturer, the device charges up to 40% in just 15 minutes. It takes 55 minutes to fully charge.
The Phantom V Fold will go on sale in the second quarter. The base version with 256GB of flash storage is $1,099, while the 512GB version is $1,222. This makes the novelty one of the cheapest smartphone books on the market.
TECNO chameleon
Another interesting solution that TECNO presented as part of MWC 2023, although never shown live, is Chameleon technology, which allows you to change the color of a smartphone case in a few clicks. The new technology involves the use of a mesh material in the back of the smartphone with microscopic prisms with electrical control that allow you to change color. Submicron sized prisms change position under the influence of an electric field. By precisely controlling the orientation of the prisms in space, the material can be tuned to either reflect light of a specific wavelength or exhibit a wide range of colors.
It should be emphasized that this is not a display and the surface does not emit any light on its own. Prisms only reflect light of a certain wavelength. This makes it very economical in terms of energy consumption – repainting a smartphone 100 times a day takes up no more charge than watching a five-minute video.
The submicron prism coating can be manually controlled thanks to the gadget’s software, which allows you to choose from 1600 colors and shades. You can also set the color to change automatically based on battery level, music playing, or notifications. The system is said to be designed for 2 million color change cycles, which will be enough for several color changes a day for many years to come. In this case, the color changes in just 0.03 seconds.
SPARK10 Pro
As part of the MWC 2023, TECNO presented an affordable smartphone SPARK 10 Pro. The manufacturer himself notes the advanced capabilities for taking selfies, modern design and very high performance.
SPARK 10 Pro received a very large 6.8-inch IPS display with 2460 × 1080 pixels and a refresh rate of 90 Hz. The device is based on a fairly productive single-chip platform MediaTek Helio G88, which is complemented by 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB flash memory is added. Such storage amounts are not so common in the budget segment.
The smartphone is equipped with a 50 MP rear camera and a 32 MP HD selfie camera. Both cameras are equipped with dual flash to capture beautiful shots in any light. According to the developers, the back of the smartphone is very durable and has a unique design with a starry sky effect. The smartphone is equipped with a 5000mAh battery that supports 18W fast charging.
MEGABOOK S1
Finally, TECNO brought to MWC 2023 an updated version of its MEGABOOK S1 laptop with a 13th generation Intel Core processor. As the manufacturer notes, thanks to the new processor, the laptop is characterized by high performance, but at the same time it remains very light and thin: the thickness is only 13.5 mm, and the weight is 1.35 kg.
The laptop is equipped with a 15.6-inch screen with a resolution of 3.2K (3200 × 2000 pixels), a refresh rate of 120 Hz and brightness up to 450 cd/m²2. The new product offers either Intel Core i7-1360P chips (12 cores up to 5.0 GHz) or Core i5-1340P (12 cores up to 4.6 GHz) as well as 16 GB LPDDR5 RAM and a 1 TB PCIe SSD 4.0.
An interesting feature of the MEGABOOK S1 2023 is the support of PC SwiftTransfer technology with the function of connecting TECNO OneLeap devices. With its help, users can easily drag-and-drop files between a laptop and a smartphone and use multiple screens at the same time.
