The leadership of coffee chain Starbucks, represented by CEO Howard Schulz and vice president of marketing Brady Brewer, announced their intention to issue several collections of non-fungible tokens (NFTs). They will open access to a digital community built around coffee and based on web3, a hypothetical new iteration of the internet based on blockchain technology.

Several posts later appeared on the Starbucks blog about creating a digital community and issuing NFT tokens. “We plan to create a series of NFT branded collections, ownership of which initiates community membership and grants access to exclusive experiences and privileges. The themes of these collections are born from Starbucks artistic expression, both traditional and contemporary, and through collaboration with other innovators and like-minded brands.”Starbucks said in a statement.
According to reports, Starbucks will launch some kind of digital loyalty program with NFT tokens, granting access to certain undisclosed perks. The company does not give any details about this project, so it is not known which blockchain it plans to use for its implementation. In any case, Starbucks must try to simplify the process of interacting with cryptocurrency wallets, which will be required for 26.7 million members of the company’s loyalty program.
