Cloud Imperium Games (CIG) plans to open a large 1,000-person division in Manchester. Thus, the developer of Star Citizen and Squadron 42 wants to make its future branch the largest game studio in the whole UK.

The new office is due to open in May 2022, and the current development team (400 people) will move there from Wilmslow, 17 kilometers from Manchester.
According to the presented five-year development plan, 700 jobs should be created in the new structural unit of CIG by 2023, and by 2026 the number of employees will increase to one thousand.
CIG currently employs about 700 people worldwide, with other offices in Los Angeles and Austin (USA), Frankfurt (Germany) and Montreal (Canada). Taking into account the news of the opening of a branch in Manchester, the staff of the company should double in the next five years.
Cloud Imperium Games founder Chris Roberts said that he started his development career in Manchester, and the conditions in the city are well-suited to running a large game studio.
Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham stated that “impatiently” is looking forward to welcoming the arrival of Cloud Imperium Games to the city in 2022. Star Citizen development fees so far exceeded $ 396 million. In total, over 3.3 million users have transferred donations through the game’s official website.
The project for PC was originally announced on October 10, 2012, the release date of its final version (as well as the storyline branch of Squadron 42) has not yet been announced.
