Square Enix: Forspoken’s initial sales were ‘lackluster’

At a meeting to announce the financial report to investors, Square Enix President Yosuke Matsuda said Forspoken has been sold “weak” after “difficult” Reviews. However, he noted that the game is praised for its gameplay, including parkour and combat, and this experience will be used in the development of other projects in the future.

In the end, Square Enix sees significant downside risk to fiscal 2023-24 earnings due to the low sales for Forspoken.

A month after the release of Forspoken, it was announced that Luminous Productions would be merging with other Square Enix teams in May. In fact, this means its closure. In the meantime, the studio keeps working – the other day they released the Forspoken update, which aims to improve optimization, graphics and gameplay. Also in the works is the In Tanta We Trust expansion, due out this summer.

Forspoken was released on January 24th, 2023 for PC and PlayStation 5.
