Spotify Starts Taking Orders For Its Car Thing Media Players

Music service Spotify has embarked on the next phase of its ecosystem. In April, the company introduced the Car Thing device, but only a handful of US users were able to get it. Now any user of the service from the United States can order the media player, sales in other regions will be announced later.

The offer is subject to a number of restrictions. First, the player is primarily intended for use in cars. Secondly, although the order is available for Free and Premium subscribers, only Premium subscribers will be able to use the player. Finally, if earlier the player was distributed free of charge, now you can only buy it – for $ 79.99.

It is noteworthy that for many users it is not at all quite obvious why such a player is needed. The fact is that Car Thing does not work without a smartphone – to provide an Internet connection, you need to connect to an Android or iOS model. So, in essence, the novelty is a convenient remote control for the Spotify application on your smartphone.

The model supports voice control, activated with the command “Hey Spotify”, a dial switch allows you to browse, select and play tracks, and four programmable buttons on the top are designed for quick access to your favorite songs. Of course, there is also a touchscreen display that allows you to view information and control playback.
