Spelunky 2’s September update brings long-promised crossplay to Spelunky 2

Spelunky 2 users can play with friends on other platforms in Adventure and Arena modes. The option is available for project owners on Steam and Microsoft Store, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X and S, and Nintendo Switch.

According to Mossmouth founder Derek Yu, the addition of crossplay was an important milestone in the development of Spelunky 2’s network component and marked the fulfillment of all of the developers’ key goals in this regard.

Mossmouth and Blitworks will continue to improve Spelunky 2’s online multiplayer and collect user feedback, while single-player content is not on the team’s agenda.

In the post, Yu also commented on the long level sync when playing online games. According to the game designer, the wait is delayed due to the different performance of users’ systems (including within Steam).

Version 1.26, among other things, brings missing developers and testers to the credits, improves synchronization, eliminates other network roughness, a number of bugs and crashes.

Spelunky 2 debuted on PC (Steam) and PS4 in September 2020, hit the Nintendo Switch in August 2021 and in January 2022 – to Microsoft Store, Xbox consoles and Game Pass (PC and Xbox).
