Sony will release PlayStation 5 Pro in late 2024, PS5 with detachable disc drive this year

Sony is developing the PlayStation 5 Pro game console, said insider Tom Henderson, citing his own knowledgeable sources. The release of the new game console can take place until the end of 2024.

Previously, Henderson also said that Sony will release a new version of the PlayStation 5 in 2023. The main difference from the current ones will be the presence of a removable optical drive. The updated console will replace both existing models. Instead of separate versions with and without a drive, only one type of console is offered for sale, but with different equipment variants, with and without a drive. You can buy a drive separately. In the event of a breakdown, you don’t have to buy a new console. It is enough to buy a replacement drive.

As Henderson points out, the detachable disc model is not a PlayStation 5 Pro. “This is just a new version of the existing set top box model”, — said one of Henderson’s sources, commenting on the upcoming PS5 release with a removable drive. That is, from the point of view of the main characteristics, this version will not differ in any way from the existing PS5. The truly new hardware is offered by the PS5 Pro, but it won’t arrive too soon.

Little is known about the features of the future improved PlayStation 5 Pro. However, a recently released technical patent from PlayStation 5 architect Mark Cerny indicates that Sony Interactive Entertainment is looking for a way to boost video game ray tracing performance. Henderson suggests that like the transition from the PlayStation 4 to the PlayStation 4 Pro, the new PlayStation 5 Pro can offer improved image quality in games, faster performance and faster FPS.
