According to insider Tom Henderson, citing sources familiar with the matter, next year Sony will release a new version of the PlayStation 5 game console, which differs from current versions mainly in the presence of a removable disc drive.
On his blog, Henderson claims that the updated console will replace all existing models. Instead of separate versions with and without a hard drive, only one type of console is now available for sale, but in different trim levels, with and without a drive. You can buy a drive separately. In the event of a breakdown, you don’t have to buy a new console. It is enough to buy a replacement drive.
The technical characteristics of the updated model will almost not differ from the current versions. Unless it becomes easier compared to the current options. The set-top box’s removable drive connects via the USB Type-C port on the back of the console. The appearance of the updated set-top box will remain similar to the current one.
According to Henderson’s sources, the updated PlayStation 5 is set to go on sale next fall. Maybe in September.
